A bedtime adventure

Malana and the Friendly Neighborhood Sleepover

A brand-new adventure about a brave girl at a sleepover, one very cozy boxer, and the friendliest hero in the whole night sky.

Malana, a girl with red hair in two long braids and star pajamas, kneels by the window of a cozy attic bedroom at night with her black-and-white boxer dog beside her. Outside the open window, a friendly spider hero in a red and blue suit hangs upside down from a web line, waving hello over the twinkling city.

Malana was at her very first big sleepover, snug in a room full of fairy lights. But when the lamp clicked low, her tummy did a little flip. New house, new sounds, new dark.

Then - tap-tap-tap - someone knocked on the window. Upside down. “Evening, neighbor!” said a friendly voice behind a red mask. “I was swinging by and thought you might like some company.”

Malana’s boxer tilted his head. Malana grinned. Heroes really do know exactly when to show up.

Malana rides on the back of the friendly spider hero as he swings on a web line high above a glowing city at night, a huge full moon behind them, her braids and starry cloak streaming. Her boxer dog rides along happily in a little web hammock.

One gentle web-swing later, they were gliding over the rooftops - not fast and scary, but slow and floaty, like being rocked by the sky. The boxer got his own web hammock, and he absolutely loved it.

“See all those little lights?” the hero said. “Every single one is somebody cozy. Reading. Dreaming. Having sleepovers, just like you.”

The city did not look dark anymore. It looked like a blanket with a thousand tiny lanterns sewn in.

On a quiet rooftop under a big bright moon, the spider hero and Malana sit cross-legged facing each other doing slow calm breathing with their eyes closed, a softly glowing web pattern spreading around them like gentle light. Her boxer dog sleeps curled up beside her.

They landed on a quiet rooftop, and the hero taught her his best-kept secret. “Even heroes get the flutters,” he whispered. “Before a big swing, I do web breathing.”

Breathe in slow, like pulling a thread of web… hold it soft… and let it go loose and easy. In… hold… and out. With every breath, the worry got smaller and the night got friendlier.

“That’s your spider-sense,” he said. “It isn’t for finding trouble. It’s for noticing how brave you already are.”

Malana asleep and smiling under a warm patterned quilt, her boxer dog curled at her feet, a lamp glowing softly. Through the window, the friendly spider hero crouches on a rooftop across the street and waves goodnight over the warm city lights.

Back through the window, into the warmest blanket burrito in the whole city. The boxer curled up at her feet like a small warm engine, already snoring.

“Sleep tight, neighbor,” the hero said from the rooftop across the street. “I’ve got the night watch - that’s my job. Yours is the good dreams.”

Malana did one more web breath - in… hold… and out - and smiled. Being brave, it turns out, feels a lot like being sleepy. “Goodnight, Spider-Man,” she whispered. And the whole city twinkled back.
